The trip is a primate trekking escapade that reunites you with your cousins the chimpanzees in Nyungwe national park, and the rare endangered mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National park; both creatures sharing over 98% DNA with humans, only proved after observing them feed, interact and play as humans do.

In addition to chimpanzee and gorilla trekking, you will engage in a canopy walk, photography, cultural encounter and city tour and much more. We guarantee you an amazing cuisine, wonderful accommodation, an expert driver-guide and unforgettable memories.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Pickup, Kigali city tour and transfer to Volcanoes National park

As you land at Kigali international airport, look out for our company representative carrying a placard inscribed with your Name. Upon meeting, he will brief you about the amazing adventure before driving around Kigali city (one of the cleanest cities in Africa), with an amazing array of infrastructure, sky scrapers, good security and unique attractions.

You will be taken to the local markets to buy items such as souvenirs, pieces of jewelry and any trip requirement, exchange money into local currency, and watch the locals exhibit art and craft. Followed by a visit to the 1994 genocide memorial site, before having lunch and driving to Volcanoes national park, while traversing beautiful sceneries and amazing the adulating hills; check in to your lodge and refresh before enjoying a delicious dinner and a peaceful night.

Day 2: Gorilla tracking and cultural encounter

Early in the morning, you will start the day with breakfast, followed by a drive to Volcanoes national park headquarters where you will join other members who have come for the same mission and are gathered for a briefing by the park rangers who will explain the importance of visiting these creatures, rules and regulations and verify your tracking documents.

Thereafter, the park rangers will allocate you to one of the ten gorilla families in the park and accompany you to the Jungle to search for them. Gorilla trekking can last for one to four hours, depending on the direction the family you are tracking has gone, plus one hour for taking photos, observing the gentle apes and asking questions.

After one hour, you will return for some refreshment and lunch before heading for a cultural experience with the natives residing around the park. They will excite you with unique Rwandese cultural dances, stories, songs and cuisine. At sunset, drive to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Nature walks and transfer to Nyungwe National Park

On this day, you will have breakfast and an optional two nature walk around this fascinating park as you watch the eye-catching flora. Afterwards, you will check out of the lodge for a drive to Nyungwe national park, hosting 13 unique primate species, several bird species and beautiful sceneries.

The drive crosses jaw-dropping sceneries, vegetations, and the scattered homesteads. Arrival at your lodge where you will dinner and spend the nights will be in the evening.

Day 4: Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk

After breakfast, you will go to the park’s headquarters for a briefing by the park rangers who will tell you the dos and dos of tracking before escorting you to the Jungle for the ultimate activity.

Tracking the exciting creatures last for roughly 1-6 hours depending on your speed, and the direction they have taken. However, while in the jungle, expect to encounter several birds, primates and unique tree species co-existing with the chimpanzees. 

After meeting and observing the primates, return for lunch before going for an amazing 2-hour canopy walk that exposes you to not only to the primates and birds but also the amazing landscape and the surrounding nature. You will then call off this day with a delicious dinner meal and a nap at the lodge.

Day 5: Shopping & departure

After having a relaxing cup of coffee, you will check out of the lodge and join your driver guide who will drive you off, back to Kigali international airport for your flight to the next destination.

However, as you reach the city, you will drive to the local markets to buy a few souvenirs for memory purposes and drive to the nearby shopping malls for shopping. Thereafter, enjoy a mount watering lunch meal around town, before proceeding to the world-class Kigali convention center, and then finally to the airport.
