Virunga national park is the cheapest destination for gorilla trekking as compared to her counterparts in Uganda and Rwanda. Not only that, you will also engage in several activities such as scenic viewing, photography, tea plantation tour, visit the Rwanda Genocide Memorial center and Lake Kivu. We guarantee you safety and security, a comfortable drive, proper time management and a tasty cousin.
Day 1: Pickup, Lake Kivu and transfer to Virunga national park
On this day, our company representative will pick you up from Kigali international airport as soon as you land on the soils of this fascinating hilly nation where the unforgettable experience starts. Followed by a briefing by our tour guide who will respond to some of your questions, and take you through a detailed explanation of the activities and destinations to be visited; thereafter, you will embark on a 5-6 hours’ drive to Bukima sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo, but with a lunch stopover at Lake Kivu or Goma boarder.
While at Lake Kivu, you will enjoy a mouth-watering meal and an optional boat ride before proceeding with your drive to Virunga national park, arriving at your lodge very excited and ready to partake dinner meal and have a peaceful nap.
Day 2: Morning gorilla trekking and visit the tea estates
Before joining other members for a briefing session at the park headquarters (Bukima ranger station), after an early morning breakfast. During briefing, the park rangers will show you some documentaries; explain the unique characteristics of the gorilla family you will track and verify tracking permits.
Thereafter, he will assign you a gorilla family of your choice, a porter at your cost, and then accompany you to the jungle, guarded by expert armed security personnel. This tracking exercise can last for one to six hours, depending on how far the gentle apes have moved in search of foliage. Upon finding them, one hour will be given to you to watch as you take photos and make inquiries and any information you may require.
After hour, you will return to the lodge for lunch and then proceed to the tea estate where the guides will tell you the process in which tea goes through before having its final product. You will have an opportunity of sipping Congolese coffee before returning to the lodge for your last meal of the day and a nap.
Day 3: Departure and Visit genocide memorial site
After breakfast, you will check out of the lodge and embark on a 5-6 hours’ drive to Kigali international airport where you will have departure flight. The driver-guide will have a stop at the genocide memorial grounds for a lecture about approximately 250000 people who were buried here during the 1994 genocide between the Tutsi and Hutu natives. Thereafter, have lunch and proceed to the airport.
