Chimpanzee Habituation Experience in Uganda

Chimpanzee Habituation Experience in Uganda

Chimpanzee Habituation Experience is one of the fascinating activities offered in Uganda’s Kibale Forest National Park and allows visitors to follow a team of scientists, researchers and trackers into the forest to learn about these great apes. This experience involves spending time with chimpanzee troops that are less accustomed to human presence unlike the ones visited during the normal chimpanzee tracking adventure.

This challenging and rewarding experience happens for a full day, with visitors heading to the chimpanzee nests as early at 5:30am before they wake up. Get a chance to watch them go about their daily routine that involves copulating, foraging, mothers nursing young ones, hunting, patrolling, resting, grooming and many other displays until building new nests in the evening (from 6 to 7pm). The process of habituating a particular chimpanzee troop usually lasts 2 years and before being finally opened for tourist visits, researchers have to be certain that they are ready to be visited.
