About Nyungwe Forest National Park.

Nyungwe Forest National Park, set in the southern side of Rwanda is remarkably one of the preferred East African primate destinations with over 13 species. The park’s numerous primates are distributed in the vast 1000sq.kms of land area consisting of a rainforest.

Nyungwe’s diverse species of primates include L’Hoest’s monkeys, over 500 chimpanzees, baboons, red tailed monkeys, vervet monkeys, colobus monkeys. There are also grey cheeked mangabeys, Dent’s Mona monkeys and silver monkeys. Besides, the park protects 310 species (these include the Rwenzori turacos, Rockefellers’ sunbird, Albertine’s owlets, red faced woodland), 28 species of reptiles, 32 species of amphibians, 1070 plant species.
